Hello and welcome to my website!
I am a self taught acrylic artist based on the Hampshire/Wiltshire border. I love to paint landscapes and also have a passion for pet portraiture.
I grew up in the New Forest and live here with my family and our beloved Labrador.
I started drawing and sketching for fun when I went travelling almost 30 years ago. Then, when my two children were tiny, I took part in a handful of art classes, inspired by my wonderful art teacher friend.
I didn’t pick up a paint brush again until a few years ago. I experiment with various mediums and have fallen in love with acrylics. I have taught myself, thanks to the internet and art magazines. I practiced, studied and practised again and now I am producing artwork that I am proud of. I am always learning, discovering new techniques and finding other artists who inspire me. Thanks to my extremely supportive husband, I have a great space at home just for me to escape, play with paint, experiment, learn and create.
Walking with my dog around our beautiful forest is often my inspiration. I absolutely love shadows, especially the way light comes through trees and makes patterns on paths.
I like having the contrast of painting landscapes alongside pet portraits. With landscapes, I can play with the composition, add or omit things as I wish. But with animals, I have to pay close attention to all the details, to make sure the animal actually looks like them as well as capturing their unique character.
I am a member of Salisbury Art Group where I have met some wonderful fellow artists and attended inspiring workshops.
My first exhibition was held in my own garden on a beautiful late summer afternoon. Since then, I have exhibited in Salisbury Art Group’s Summer Exhibition and Winter Exhibitions. I won the ‘Peoples Choice’ prize for my painting ‘Bluebells in Langley Wood’.
I am often commissioned to create original artworks. If this is of interest then please contact me.
Prints are also available of most artworks. Again, please get in touch if there is something you'd like.
You can also find a selection of my original cards in my Etsy shop: beckyaymesart.etsy.com
Thank you for visiting my site! Please get in touch if I can help in any way.
Best wishes, Becky
